The two of them, along with a team consisting of language experts, drillers, mechanics, and mercenaries, meet up with Weyland on the ship bound for the island where he reveals to them that the satellite discovered an enormous, ancient pyramid beneath the island, one that, according to De Rosa, is made up of elements of several different civilizations. Shortly afterward, Alexa Woods, an experienced guide whose specialty is arctic environments, is contacted by the company's owner, industrialist Charles Bishop Weyland, as is archeologist Sebastian De Rosa while on an excavation in Teotihuacan. October 2004: a satellite belonging to Weyland Industries detects a sudden surge of heat on the island of Bouvetoya, off the coast of Antarctica.

I couldn't believe that such a promising concept had been made into such a lame, generic, sci-fi action movie that, for my money, is the worst installment in both the Alien and Predator franchises and is also, if not one of the worst movies I've ever seen period, is definitely among the most disappointing. Like I said, versus movies are hardly ever truly good and some fans feel that they cheapen their respective franchises (that's how James Cameron felt about this idea) but they usually satisfy a majority of fans however, it seemed like this movie satisfied nobody! I was like, "Damn, is it really that bad?" Well, a year after it was released, I finally saw it for myself on DVD and I was stunned. But then, I started reading other peoples' thoughts on IMDB and they were downright scathing and pure venom. It was released, I did read the critics' reviews and, of course, they were all negative, which didn't surprise me as critics never like movies made for fans, so I never paid them much attention. I must say, like a lot of other people, I was excited to see it, as all that merchandise had shown the potential for what an awesome movie could be made from it.

I first knew that the movie was being made when I just happened to come across its then newly-created IMDB page and saw that it was coming out in the summer of 2004. And of course, there had been comic books, novels, toys, and video games depicting an ancient and ongoing war between the two ferocious species (I once had one of the computer games where you could play as either an Alien, Predator, or Colonial Marine and it kicked ass), so a movie based around this concept was not only eagerly anticipated but should have been the pinnacle of awesomeness. Predator seemed like it was poised to fulfill the dreams of fans of both of those franchises who'd been wanting to see this matchup on the big screen ever since 1989 when the first comic book was published and when it had been teased as a real possibility in 1990 when an Alien skull was glimpsed in the Predator's trophy room in Predator 2. Jason had finally come out and was a huge hit, proving that there was still an audience for these types of movies, in spite of how long they can take to get made. First, in 2003, the long awaited Freddy vs.

By the time the early 2000's rolled around, we had a couple of other examples to add to the list. Godzilla, which is just plain silly and, speaking as a fan of both characters, could have been a whole lot better (but that's a story for another day). Before the millennium, the two most popular examples were Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man, which is arguably the best of the whole bunch as it's actually well made and, while the two monsters don't fight until the very end, said bout is entertaining nonetheless, and King Kong vs. they're a fan's dream and yet, they always seem to end up being a major letdown. Nearly every time two or more popular characters come together, the end result is either flat-out disappointing or fun but not exactly what one would call a good movie.
